About Status International

Status International Auctions is part of the I S Wright group of businesses.

The owner I S (Stewart) Wright first entered the stamp and coin business in 1972 and over the past 50 years continually expanded after opening his first shop in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in 1973. In 1981 a Melbourne shop was opened, followed in 1984 by a shop in Adelaide. In 1988 I S Wright expanded into Medals and Militaria, purchasing Ray Tancred's Militaria business and museum. In 1991 the business expanded further with the purchase of the Martin Daniels Coin shop in Sydney. A second Sydney shop was opened in 1993.

In 1996 Status International Public Auctions, Sydney was acquired and all Sydney businesses were consolidated in 1999 into Sydney's largest Stamp, Coin and Militaria business and Australia's largest public Stamp and Coin auction, located in the central Sydney CBD.

Status Auctions had been established in Sydney in the 1970s and had several owners until 1996 when acquired by the I S Wright group. Since then Catalogues have grown substantially along with the number of lots and scope of material.

Status International usually holds 6 Stamp Auctions and 2 Coin Auctions per year plus several Militaria Auctions. There are 11 full time workers and several part-time staff in the stamp auction business. Customers are split approximately half Australian / half overseas with customers on each continent (except the Antarctic!). Vendors are about 90% Australian, 10% overseas. Sales are roughly 65% local 35% overseas.

The IS Wright group has consolidated from 4 shops and two auction houses around Australia to 1 auction and 1 shop located in Sydney and employs a total of 17 full time staff.
