1765 American Colonies of Great Britain General Issue Embossed Revenue 2/6 on deep blue, inscribed AMERICA at top, tied by metal staple to document piece, with George III cypher security seal no.229 affixed on back over the staple. VF. Sc RM31a. This stamp was part of a series of values which were introduced as a result of the Stamp Act of 1765. This value was, however, the only value that exists embossed separately as a stamp & affixed to the document, rather than impressed directly onto the document. (Of great historical importance as it was the imposition of taxes w/o parliamentary representation which led the American Colonies to revolt against the British crown. This was one of the major reasons for the American War of Independence which led to the founding of the USA). A similar example sold for $1900 in auction 326. 2015 Ceremuga photo cert. (P)AVAILABLE at A$1200
