WW2 DLRG (German Lifesafing Association) STICK PIN. Stick pin is for the DLRG or Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs- Gesellschaft. Established in 1912 after a pier in Binz on the island Rugen, collapsed under the load of 1,000 people waiting for the cruise ship Kronprinz Wilhelm. The German Navy was able to save all but 17 people. The 17 died because they could not swim, including 7 children. Oval shaped white metal pin featuring an eagle overlooking water next to the letters "DLRG". Written to the top of the pin is "Grundschein". No makers mark to reverse. Nice straight pin with partial knurling. Grade II.
