WW2 SUPERB EXAMPLE OF A CASED 1939 WAR MERIT CROSS WITHOUT SWORDS, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL CARDBOARD OUTER CASE. A rare opportunity to purchase a superior example of a late war 1939 War Merit Cross without swords, most likely unissued. Obverse of the cross retains all of its original silvered finish with a very light age patina and has a really nice bright appearance with clear sharp detail. Reverse has a significant age patina over much of the surface giving it a really nice vintage toned appearance. "Coke bottle" style retaining pin. No maker mark. Black leatherette case with an embossed silver facsimile of the cross to the outer lid. Case is in almost mint condition with the only flaw being some surface rust to the hinge. Lower section of the inner case where the cross sits, is lined with black velvet. Upper section lined with a white silk like material. Marked "Deschler & Sohn, Munchen". C/w an orange coloured cardboard box marked "KRIEGSVERDIENSTKREUZ 1. KLASSE" (War Merit Cross 1st Class). Minor age related fading to the cardboard with almost no signs of wear. Exceptionally rare to get the cross complete "as issued" to the recipient. A splendid example for display. Medal Grade II+. Case Grade I-. Cardboard outer Grade I-.
