1861-1882 1st HUNTINGDONSHIRE MOUNTED RIFLES/LIGHT HORSE (DUKE OF MANCHESTER'S) HELMET. Black boiled leather skull with a silvered edge to the front peak. To the front a silvered helmet plate comprising an ornate MV cipher surmounted by a ducal coronet. The cipher rests on a scroll which has the wording '1st or Duke of Manchester's'. To the crown a silvered plume holder supports a scarlet and white horsehair plume. Complete with silvered interlinked chin chain, backing material absent. The lining to the interior now absent. A short length of stitching to the left corner of the rear peak now unstitched, but is hidden by the plume. The right side of the helmet has a tear to the leather above the silvered rose head chin chain boss. A rare example which would still make a nice display piece. Grade II-
