1939-45 M1917A1 STEEL COMBAT HELMET WITH THE 1936 UPGRADE LEATHER LINER. This is the British style of combat helmet that was finally replaced in 1941 by the US designed M1 helmet. This is a fine example of the style of helmet that the US forces wore in the early years of WW2, for example as worn during the attack on Pearl Harbour. Olive drab painted outer with rough sawdust textured finish rating at approx 90%. Inner retains most of the dark olive drab painted finish showing only minor wear. Impressed in to the inner flare "ZA209". Tan leather liner assembly also showing only minor wear, mainly to the edge. Ink stamp to the liner, but difficult to decipher. Complete with the tan leather drawstring. Correct khaki canvas webbing chinstrap. Overall a fine example of an US M1917 combat helmet for display. Grade II+
