WW2 CLOSE COMBAT CLASP IN BRONZE. This imposing award, made from a zinc metal base, measures approx 98mm in length Good condition showing some age patina (verdigris) to the bronze finish. Sharp fine detail to the eagle, Swastika, crossed stick grenade and bayonet. Unfortunately this example is missing it's small metal square backing plate that sits behind the Swastika and crossed grenade and bayonet. Gives the badge a 'cut out' appearance as seen on some other awards such as wound badges etc. Still a nice example for display. Well marked to the rear with 'FEC WE PEEKHAUS, BERLIN' to the left hand side of the 'C' clasp & AUSF, AGMuK, Gablonz to the right hand side of the retaining pin. Typical 'Coke bottle' style retaining pin. A similar badge is featured on pages 200/201 of 'German Combat badges of the Third Reich' by Tucker/Previtera. The close combat clasp was a later decoration for front line soldiers that engaged in 'hand to hand' combat. This bronze clasp (Grade 1) was awarded for 15 days and up to 30 days of close combat fighting. Grade II-
