ca.1850 Convict type leg irons, typical crudely made Indian issue c/1850-1890, small sized cuffs, barrel, screw-lock variety, complete with key, cuffs stamped (faint) "ND.6" (or No.6"?), reinforced figure 8 link chain. Used by convict department, police & prisons. Minor surface rust. VGC. Original & very scarce.

New South Wales: 1848 Conditional Pardon on vellum granted to Charles Thernton who as transported for "the term of his natural life." Born in Kent in 1796 he was convicted of stealing a sack of potatoes in 1832 and arrived on the ship Mangles (6) in 1833. Pen details a little feint but still all quite readable. gVF. RARE. (P)
