New South Wales: Colonial Sugar Refining Company Unissued One Pound 1.. 'Shinplaster' note. Circa 1870-1879 undated, printing plate by S.T.Leigh (Sydney). Payable on the Sydney account of the Chatsworth Mill (on the Clarence River). 2 others domiciles are known: Darkwater & Southgate Mills. All issues are extremely rare. This Chatsworth note is especially so, with the other known example being in the Mitchell Library. Our example, (cancelled twice in red ink) is in an unusually high state of preservation for a Colonial note. It was found in the mid 1970s along with some early Fijian notes, in the papers of Erenezer Vickery, a major merchant & philanthropist (see Aust Dictionary Biography Vol Six p333-334). In 1975 it passed from Mr John Victory to a Sydney collector. EF. (P)SOLD at A$6500
