Ca1930'sTO WW2 SHIELD BADGE WITH THE ESTONIAN EAGLE. Imposing multi-piece w/m and enamel badge. Features an orange-brown enamelled shield approx. 23mm wide. Separately attached to this is a w/m Estonian eagle. Eagle is clutching a sword in its left side talons and a small Estonian national shield (with 3 tiny blue enamel lions) in the other. Reverse of the badge is gilt finished. Unusually, rather than the more commonly seen method of making badges, the eagle is attached to the shield section of the badge by 3 small fine pieces of wire. Wire protrudes through the back of the shield holding the eagle firmly in place. Gilt coloured screw-on back plate marked "Roman Tavast" and "Tallinn". "Roman Tavast" was arrested by the Russians in 1940 and was executed in Siberia in 1942. A handsome item for display. Grade II.
