RARE 19th CENTURY NGALA EXECUTION SWORD. Also used as a symbol of power. A black wooden grip consisting of twin wide discs with a small tapering pommel which is wire bound to it's lower section. Partial split to one of the discs. There is also a short grip between the lower disc and the blade, this is bound with iron bands. This design facilitating one or two handed use. The forged iron blade is 53cms long and has a multi curved blade with four lugs to the inner side of the blade. The obverse of the blade has three short fullers and engraved designs. O/a pitting and some surface rust to the reverse, still a good, solid blade which shows use as wear is evident to the centre of the main cutting edge. A genuine execution sword from the forest people of Central Africa. Licence required in Victoria. Grade II-
