1165![]() Click to enlarge photo | 1989-1990 Cycling 37c UNISSUED self-adhesive stamp printed as an essay for Australia's 1st "peel & stick" but using wrong denomination & never issued due to rate increase. The original artwork for the Cycling stamp was for a 37c denomination but this was changed to 41c for the issue of the normal perf stamps, & it appears that when the 1st self-adhesive stamps were made the printer by mistake referred to the 37c artwork instead of the 41c perf stamps & so the self-adhesives were done as 37c in error! Superb MUH on original backing paper. SG 1180(var), ACSC 1379E(1) cat $6000 in 2002 editon (the change in price in later edition was made without basis & the footnote comments are totally incorrect). While the only known roll was temporarily in private hands the owner was forced to give it back Australia Post (apart from very few examples that had been cut from it) and thus almost all the examples are locked up in Australia Post archives, with only estimated 6-9 in private hands. Significant rarity of decimal period - previous examples we had have sold for between $3500 to $5000. Certificate can be obtained on request. (P) | SOLD at A$2800 |
