1834 Click for more photos | Local Post: Burdell & Co. 1854 typeset design (1/-) black on green, inscrebed 'Forwarded by BURDELL & COs British & Australian Express', used on cover/wrapping front marked 'per Express' addressed to Melbourne. These stamps were mainly used mainly to carry gold packets from Geelong to Melbourne, but also for the carriage of urgent packets to Sydney, Adelaide, Launceston & even as far as England, Ireland & Scotland. Superb fresh, with 4 large margins, small expert repairs in right margin only not noticeable at all. Great rarity with only 8 recorded in total.
