2838 Click to enlarge photo | ca 1855 Perkins Bacon engraved essay in black by Humphreys of QV Chalon design in Coronation Robes, 32mm in diameter with superb engine turned frame, on thin glossy CHALK-SURFACED CARD 75x50mm, with the sunken rectangular blank areas of the die still weakly printed in grey. (The head identical to issued design, but diff engine turned background is horiz, rather than radiating from a circle in the issued stamp. Interestingly this exact circular design but in smaller format was used as part of the design on Union Bank banknotes). Niice item for title page frontispiece of a Chalon collection or exhibit.
