1855-57 QV Chalon 1/- pale yellow-green on blued paper, wmk star, imperf. Perkins Bacon London printing, with part barred oval 'CANCELLED' h/s. (This being one of the so called 'Ormond Hill Specimens' when in 1861 Perkins Bacon supplied 6 examples of many of their current & earlier issues to Rowland Hill's son in law. Despite the fact that all these stamps were obliterated with the 'CANCELLED' h/s, the Agent-General for the Crown Colonies vehemently objected, & this led directly to Perkins Bacon losing their stamp printing contracts to Thomas De La Rue). VFU appearance, small tear at right & UL cnr irregular separation, 4 margins & bright colour. SG 3(var) cat £26,000. CP A6a(X) cat NZ$65,000. Great rarity as only 6 examples produced.
