Sword frog, Sam Browne equipment dated 1916 by "Bonney" unit marked to 1st Field Squadron, Engineers, AIF ("I/F.S.E."); another dated 1915 by C.G.H.F. & comp with sword stay-strap, light tan; open-top revolver case with belt loop, clearing rod tube & top securing strap dated 1941 by Julius Cohn, Adelaide; Sam Browne waist belt with provision for single cross-strap (strap not present) marked in pen "Barry Phillips, CSC.1500, 1953-56" inside; a c/1900 court-dress sword frog & shoulder sling in cloth & Morocco leather; an Italian Royalist c/1920 officer's full dress pouch belt in bullion backed with velvet & with silvered buckles & fittings of crowned eagle, "Savoy" knot chain, pickers & shield bearing the crowned initials "V.E." (Vittorio Emmanuel); a Sergeant's red worsted & fringed shoulder sash. VGC. Some scarce & unusual items of officer equipment. The 1st Field Squadron (see 1st item), Engineers AIF served in the Desert Campaigns as Mounted Troops alongside the Light Horse & were instrumental in the success of the Beersheba Operations, excavating wells along the route to and at Beersheba. |
