Dark blue/black superfine wool lined in quilted crimson silk with gold impressed maker logo & 'by appointment to Her Majesty Queen Mary-Rowe of Gosport, 106 New Bond St, London W.' Cr me leather sweatband with ink size mark 6 7/8. Comp with its correct WWI period tally bullion on black silk/cotton mix: 'H.M.S. Royal Sovereign'. (Royal Sovereign Class Battleship launched Apr 1915 but not commissioned until May 1916. She carried 8 x 15 in guns & 12 x 6 in guns in addition to smaller armament & torpedo tubes). Exc.
