Ireland. 1927-40 Eire Army Mod 1927 'Vickers' Steel Helmet. Design based upon that of the German Mod.1916 steel helmet (Vickers Co that produced the helmets for the Eire Army utilised captured German manufacturing equipment). 2 x brass brackets affixed to front to accommodate the Eire Army Mod.1922 badge (rarely worn in practice). Exterior retains 70% of its original dark green/black finish with the interior retaining some of the white overprint (when issued to Eire Emergency Services 1940-45). Leather liner band intact (but pads & pad flaps now missing). Stamped: 'T Smith & Son, Dublin 1927'. Reverse rim of Helmet stamped: 'V. Ltd/H8002/40/27'. No chin strap. A scarce & interesting helmet.
