1939-45 An historically important & interesting Knight Bachelor & MID group of 11, to the Ex Lord Mayor of Adelaide. The Honourable Robert Evelyn Porter, who served with the second AIF in Africa & the Pacific during WWII. Group comprising (2) Knight Bachelors badges, first type (large) & small neck badge, both hallmarked, in Garrard & Spink boxes of issue. 1939-45 Africa & Pacific Stars unnamed as issued, Defence, War medal 1939-45 with MID & Australian Service medals (3), to 'SX 616 R. E. PORTER' impressed. Jubilee medal 1977- unnamed as issued. Belgium Order of Leopold II, officer, Belgium Order of Leopold, officer, Belgium medal of the Order of the Crown. Robert Evelyn Porter was born in Adelaide on the 10/07/1913. He was educated at St Peter's College Adelaide, & enlisted, then commissioned into the Australian Army in 2/09/1939. He served in Africa & the Pacific, being mentioned dispatches (MID) 31/07/1943 (London Gazette 23/13/1943), for Gallant & Distinguished Services in the South West Pacific Area. He was discharged with the rank of major on 23/11/1945. Porter later was elected as the Lord Mayor of Adelaide serving between 1968-71. The medal group (less the Jubilee 1977) is swing mounted as worn. Lot comes with Porter's original miniature group of 11 inc Silver Jubilee. Knight Bachelor badges EF, all other medals gVF or better. |
