Service in Sinai, Palestine, Syria with 4th Light Horse Brigade Supply Section. Lieutenant 1917. Captain 1918. Mentioned in Sir Edmund Allenby's Despatches 10.01.1919 (LG 22.01.1919) for the period Apr-Aug 1918:'Lieut A E Simpson, 35th Coy Aust MTD Divisional Train. Operations in the Jordan Valley Apr 30th to Aug 22nd 1918. For cheerfulness and devotion to duty. During the trying period in the Jordan Valley he always inspired his section by his cheerfulness under all conditions. Although at one time he was extremely ill he continued to carry on with his duties & set a fine example.' Returned to Australia & disch 29.10.1919. With copies of archive file & citation. gVF.
