Enl Royal Marines 13/09/1870, posted as RMA aboard HMS 'Repulse' 1872-1878, 'Tamar' & 'Cyclops' 1878-79. Noted in records as 'RM Batt. S. Africa, HMS 'Boadicea' '(though only Egypt Medal listed on discharge certificate) June - Aug 1879. HMS 'Agincourt' Sept 1879 - 1882. Noted as 'Med'n Batt'n' June - Oct 1882. Wounded in Action at the Battle of Kassassin by 'bursting of shells before his face, his eyes being chiefly affected'. Disch 11/11/1882. on original ribbon. aEF scarce to Egypt 1882 WIA.
