1914-18 ARTILLERY SHAKO FOR A FAEHNRICH (OFFICER CANDIDATE). Retains a handsome distinctive shape with the leather body in very good condition. Leather visor is securely attached to the shako body, shows some wear/age to the outer side. Yellow-gold coloured shako braids (lace) are of silk material and retain a nice bright colour with some minor soiling. Gilded shako plate to the front has lost some of the lustre over time. Large lion head bosses to either side of the shako for attaching the chinstrap. Chin chain of gilded brass metal links. Black horsehair plume with a gilded bullion central rosette. Inner lined with a maroon/red coloured silk. Embossed gilt crest and makers name 'Zamler Wien VII' A truly superb item of Imperial Austrian headgear that makes a magnificent display piece. Grade II-
