5268 Click for more photos | Channel Islands - Jersey: 1940 German Occupation 'swastika JERSEY 1940' opt GB Stamp Centenary 1½d. Superb fresh MUH, pristine original gum. At the start of German Occupation, the commandant ordered all stocks of GB stamps be delivered to Bigwoods printery & opt with a swastika etc. However, after objections from Bailiff of Jersey & consultations with Berlin, a decision was made not to issue the opt stamps & destroy all stock. All were then burnt, apart from several sets which were kept for archives or souvenirs. SG JW15 cat £3250++, much under-catalogued as no examples have been on the market for very many years, & only several genuine examples exist (forgeries being plentiful!). The only MUH example known to us. We previously sold the 2d from same issue for $8700 in 2009. Great rarity of significant historical importance. 2013 Ceremuga photo cert.
