Otho. A.D. 69. Silver Denarius (3.56g). Rome mint. Struck 15 January-8 March A.D. 69. Bare head right / Securitas standing left, holding wreath and sceptre. RIC I 10; Muona Group 2, Type 9B, Portrait Type D; RSC 15. Superb. aEF for the type. Fantastic portrait and beautiful example. Rare in this condition. This denarius shows Otho bareheaded, presenting himself with studied simplicity while Rome reeled from civil war. On the reverse, Securitas stands calmly with wreath and sceptre, a pointed promise of stability from a ruler whose reign would last barely three months.
