1914-18 War AIF Rising Sun badge embroidered 'Soldier Art'. Colour embroidered badge design of high quality on white 'duck' (light canvas) material 530mm x 440 mm. Made by 4781 Pte Daniel Joseph Fitzgerald, 15th REOs to 9th Inf Bn, AIF whilst recuperating from influenza at St Anne's Hall (Berkshire UK) 1917. Embroidered title below 'Rising Sun': 'March 1917 - D Fitzgerald - St Anne's Hall'. A labourer from Esk QLD, Fitzgerald enlisted 1/10/1915 in Bris. Only 5 months after his influenza hospitalisation Fitzgerald was again sent to hospital suffering from shock caused by lightning strike! He returned to Aus 3/9/1919 & disch Brisbane. Sword: Pattern 1908 Calvary Troopers sword. A good example of the pattern issued to Indian Cavalry. Straight steel blade with age tone. Black checkered bakelite grips (a smaller grip to match the generally smaller hands of the cavalry troopers recruited in the sub-continent). The blade marked with broad arrow, maker's mark of Wilkinson Pall Mall. Top edge of the blade marked 'IP 08' & dated '5 19' (May 1919). All steel full bowl guard with remains of painted finish. Comes with its all steel scabbard (no paint remaining & with some age tone). VGC. (P)AVAILABLE at A$600

Siam: Type 62 'Smiling Tiger' bayonet. Comes with a fitted Australian-made 'Mangrovite 43' marked leather scabbard & blackened pattern 37 web frog. The type 62 is a re-badged British Pattern 1907 bayonet. Siam purchased 10,000 SMLE rifles & Pattern 1907 bayonets from British in 1919 to equip the 'Wild Tiger Corps' royal bodyguard of Vajiravudh King Rama VI (1910-25).
