1935-36 Greece-Australia interrupted Imperial mail, IE309 1935 (27 Jan) where Athena force-landed at Surabaya. Indonesia, Feb 4 due to broken exhaust pipe, the service resuming following day , Sanford states no mail known! Plus IE437 1936 (22 Apr) burst tyre at Surabaya on landing, each at 58D rate for 5-10gr, minor faults, each with Melbourne b/s. (2)

1942 airmail cover franked KGVII 3d brown (2) with straight-line 'H.M.A.S. MELVILLE' with 2nd nice strike on provisional registration label, plus two more across flap where also is endorsed by sender 'EC JOHNSON/HMAS PLATYPUS' with 'ARMY POST OFFICE/3JY44/O65' (used at Darwin) transit and Sydney arrival b/s & tombstone naval censor h/s. Use of ships' names was highly irregular & contrary to military regulations. (Platypus was in Darwin Harbour when the Japanese bombed Darwin on 19/2/1942. She remained in Darwin as a training ship & later as a base ship. HMAS 'Melville' was the naval shore station at Darwin). Previously sold for $66 at a Melbourne auction in 2010. (P)

Day' censored cover (vert fold) with Australia KGVI 3d tied by rare use of 'Aust Unit Postal Stn/444' cds (Proud 1000pts, only allocated to North Borneo 23.6 to 26.8.45), oval intaglio 'Post Office State of Brunei' b/s & Japanese Occup 'Tutong/North Borneo' cds b/s. Only 2 other similar covers seen by vendor & the Japanese cds is extremely rare with no examples previously known by Proud. (P)
