1853 PORT PHILLIP, Kangaroo Office, 'Pure Australian Gold', ¼oz struck from original dies by W.J. Taylor, London. (11.85g) This a plain edge restrike, almost certainly struck ca1917 - 19 by Stokes & Son, Melbourne in whose possession the dies were at that time. gVF. Around the rim there is a small line suggesting the coin is an electrotype but the coin appears to sound solid drop when tested.
