India. Central Internment Camp Private Funds Account note h/s with HALF ANNA & Wing 1 in violet. Attributed to the Prem Nagar or Dehra Dun internment camp, cf. Campbell 5198. Very rare. Wartime camp issue for use in an Indian internment camp holding both Axis prisoners and Indian civilians. Strongly circulated, with heavy wear and small tears. India, Prisoner of War Camp ONE ANNA coupon, purple on tan underprint, Type 1 with vertical bar at left, opt CENTRAL INTERNMENT CAMP in black, with Wing 1. handstamp in violet on face and reverse, additionally with handstamped signature on the reverse. Identified as used Dehra Dun / Premnagar, WWII prisoner-of-war and internee camp A very rare and historically important camp-money issue, untraced by us in Wing 1 form in the auction archives checked. For comparison, a Wing 3 example of the same 1 Anna type sold at Spink, Auction 18015, lot 344, on 11-12 April 2018,realised GB£380. Feller IN-1219B. Fine or better. |
