Crusader States - Chios: Maona Society (ca 1382-1450) gold ducat (zecchino), imitating Venice issue of 2nd Doge Antonio Veniero (1382-1400). St Mark standing right, presenting banner to Doge kneeling left, rev Christ the Redeemer standing facing within mandorla with nine stars. EF, unusually well struck. 3.54g. Fr 2c (under Greece) cf Fr 1229 (Venice). Historically very interesting coin in much nicer than normally encountered quality. (P)

Piedmont (Sub-alpine) Republic: AN 10 (1801) Liberty Head 20 Francs 'ITALIE DELIVREE A MORENCO' with apostrophe before A & no dot (which is rarer than the apostrophe after A). This coin commemorates Napoleon's victory in the Battle of Marengo. Interestingly this is the world's first gold coin in decimal currency system. 6.47g. Fr-1172, KM-C5. Graded PCGS MS62, fully lustrous, near gem UNC. Very well struck with all intricate details fully clear. Sole highest graded example & major rarity in such beautiful quality. (P)
