Adelaide / 16 MY 00' cds, original silver metallic sheen. SG 207 cat £40,000 for M, unpriced for U, & should be valued at least at similar level. This is the ONLY EXAMPLE with postal cancel of SG 207 ever recorded, & should not be confused with examples of the £15 from later printings SG 207a upright wmk perf 11½ (of SG 207a there was apparently a part sheet in remainders that were CTO). The vast majority of SG 207 were opt specimen, with only a tiny number issued, mostly for fiscal use. Even as fiscally used it is extremely rare with less than 10 recorded, while with proper postal postmark this is the only example ever recorded. This card was part of the 'Briefaktion des RSHA (Juden)' which was 'Operation Mail' carried out by the Nazis in the summer of 1943 to deceive the world about the 'Final Solution'. Before being murdered Jewish prisoners were forced to write forward dated postcards or letters home falsely stating that they were in good health & doing well, & the purpose of this was also to try to lure out any Jews still in hiding. At the start of German Occupation, the commandant ordered all stocks of GB stamps be delivered to Bigwoods printery & opt with a swastika etc. However, after objections from Bailiff of Jersey & consultations with Berlin, a decision was made not to issue the opt stamps & destroy all stock. All were then burnt, apart from several sets which were kept for archives or souvenirs. SG JW15 cat £3250++, much under-catalogued as no examples have been on the market for very many years, & only several genuine examples exist (forgeries being plentiful!).
