VFU, tied to piece by 'Kais Deutsche Marine Schiffspost no1 12.5.01' cds (lifted for examination). Provisional produced due to shortage of 3pf stamps on the cruiser 'Vineta' which was visiting American ports, & the crew wanted to post US newspapers reporting the Kaiser's birthday on the 3pf printed matter rate. This example is a one of a very small quantity of CTO ones made on the return journey as souvenirs for the officers of the ship.
