1877 Click for more photos | 2017 Gold Fish set Y1.20 - Y3.00, set of 8 different designs as se-tenant blocks of 4 from sheetlets, that were to be released as issue '2017-14' but were not issued. Stamps superb fresh MUH with pristine never hinged original gum. This set was fully prepared for issue with details of stamp designs published by China Post and preliminary distribution was done to post offices. However, the published designs were heavily criticised that some of the goldfish pictured had actually Japanese species names, and not Chinese ones! Due to the political fallout, a government decision was made to totally cancel the issue, and strict orders were given for all stocks to be returned & officially destroyed. In China all stamp sheets & philatelic sale products have individual serial nos, according to which full accounting can be made, and potential penalties are very severe. Only several sets are recorded as surviving, which originated from damaged presentation packs. By far the rarest Chinese stamps of the last 55+ years, and equivalent in rarity to the rarest unissued Cultural Revolution stamps. Important items for the specialist collector. Imperf 25c with 'Serie F' serial no, the other imperfs w/o serial nos, while the perf stamps all with 'Serie F' serial nos. Hiscocks 1-4 & 1a-4a, Bft 1-4 & 1a-4a. (These stamps were printed by Waterlow & Sons & depict Professor H.C. Orsted, the Danish pioneer of electromagnetism. They were prepared for use on the Great Northern Telegraph Company's telegraph network in eastern Asia which had installed telegraph lines Hong Kong - Amoy - Shanghai - Nagasaki). Superb condition, imperfs UN as made, perf stamps MUH, pristine never hinged original gum. Of the imperfs probably 2 sheets of 25 of each existed, of which only 1 of the 25c had the serial nos. While of the perf stamps only 1 set of sheets of 25 of this series has ever been recorded in private hands from which these originate. Extremely important offering for either the Hong Kong or Chinese specialist, or the collector of world telegraphs.
